“quirky comfortable hideaway”

Reviewed 13 Oct 2016

What a delightful setting . The weather was unpredictable so we couldn't take advantage of the pretty garden but explored the local footpaths, all well signposted Our party of 4 adults,an 8 month old baby and well behaved Tibetan terrier enjoyed our 3 day stay . The living accomodation is reasonably spacious and the beds really comfortable. The bed linen was good quality and there were plenty of fluffy white towels. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. The sink and hot plates behind cupboard doors took a bit of getting used to. The two overhead lights weren't really enough so it was rather dingy for cooking but that didn't deter us from producing our usual tasty meals. We' all like reading so would have appreciated bedside lamps on each side of the beds and maybe more lamps in the lounge area. We didn't use the upstairs bedroom but guess it would appeal particularly to older children or young teenagers. Driving into Hexham was straight forward. There was a road closure near to town which perhaps accounted for the increase of traffic and the need to manoeuvre our small campervan on occasions. We all felt very much at home and welcome .

Thank you for your lovely review and I'm so glad you had a nice holiday. I'm afraid we had a bit of a gremlin with lamps just before your stay. We had 3 lamps give up on us!! They are all replaced and now each bedside table has a lamp, & there are now 2 lamps in the lounge area. I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused during your stay and thank you again for taking the time to review the chapel. We hope to see you again sometime in the future. Best wishes, Clare

“Wonderful cottage”

Wonderful place to stay, very comfy and all needs catered for. Ideal setting and close to Hadrians wall. Would definitely return, just sorry we did not book for 2weeks.

Hi Gail Thank you so much for the lovely review, and I'm so glad you enjoyed your holiday. I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you, as I was on holiday myself, but I hope to see you again in the future. Kind regards, Clare

“Charming riverside property in pretty rural village”

Reviewed 18 Mar 2013

We had a lovely stay in this old chapel it was very warm and cosy throughout out our late winter week, we even had some lovely bright sunny days which was an unexpected bonus, and a couple of bright starry nights. The owner Clare was very helpful and had taken the the time to bake us a delicious cake on arrival.Plenty of things to do whether that be exploring the history of Hadrain's wall or shopping in the local towns, or taking a stroll along the numerous local footpaths. Our little girl loved being near the river even though we had to share it with the local geese and ducks. This is an unusual property with a practical solution for providing full kitchen facilties, and has incorporated a lot of the original features from the chapel with tasteful decor and and furniture all of whch makes it a delightful holiday home.

“Idyllic location and a hidden gem”

Reviewed 7 Jan 2013

We loved this cottage, it was spacious a very luxurious bedrooms, with sufficient bathrooms to keep everyone happy. The location is stunning and peaceful with busy Hexham only a few miles away. There were a couple of easy to reach pubs and the dogs had a blast. Lots of local walks and a great welcome from clare and the chickens ... Lovely chocolate cake on arrival and a sweet little private garden.

“Couldn't wish for a more idyllic spot”

Reviewed 8 May 2012

This beautifully unique property is in the most idyllic spot you could possibly imagine. Right next to a river, which runs alongside a beautiful wooded area, perfect for dog walking, which was much enjoyed by Charlie (a Collie cross), and Una (a lurcher). In the little hamlet of Juniper, this property is far enough out of Hexham to be nicely secluded, but not too far if you need some shopping. The decor and furnishings inside the chapel are wonderful. The only negative point I could possibly think of was the lack of a potato masher in the kitchen, but not exactly a holiday spoiler! After popping out one morning, we returned only to be welcomed by a delicious homemade sponge cake with fresh strawberries in a tin on the doorstep. Even though the chapel is right next door to the owners house, I think we only saw them once, so were not made to feel as if we were being scrutinised. But it was nice to know they were there, had we needed any assistance or information. We all agreed that we would love to return to the chapel in the summertime, as we were rather unfortunate with the weather. Even so, we managed a trip to Hadrian's Wall, and popped over to Penrith (only about an hour away) to visit a friend. A wonderful long weekend was enjoyed by all our party, and even though it's a long old drive up from Kent, it's certainly somewhere we'd be delighted to revisit. Definitely recommend to anyone.
