“Highly recommended apartment in good location”

We had a three night break in Madrid in February. It was our first visit to Madrid and I would highly recommend the city and Ferraz apartment. The Metro journey from the airport was straightforward and the apartment is about a 10 minute walk from the local Metro station. The spacious accommodation was spotlessly clean, light and airy and has lots of homely touches. Mary gave us a generous welcome pack which included enough food for our breakfasts during our stay as well as wine, chocolates, biscuits, etc. We were able to visit many of the main attractions on foot; however we did buy a travel pass which included the journey to and from the airport and enabled us to visit some of the sites which were further away such as the Santiago Bernabeu. In summary, I would certainly recommend the Ferraz apartment to anybody taking a trip to Madrid.

We stayed for 3 nights in Mid June 2013. The apartment was clean and very well located. Easy to get to all the sights in Madrid. Mary, our hostess was fabulous! She was very helpful and made our visit to Madrid even more memorable. I would highly recommend this apartment.

Mary was very pleasant and helpful. She provided instructions for us to take the metro from the airport and met us at Arguelles metro station, walking us to the apartment (5-10 minutes away) pointing out the supermarkets etc on the way. The apartment is on the fourth floor with no escalator, but Mary’s partner assisted with getting our luggage up the stairs. It is on a busy one-way road, which we found noisy. Fortunately the bedroom is back from the road a little with no windows and with the bedroom doors closed we enjoyed a good nights sleep. The apartment is spacious and has a homely feel with the bed providing a comfortable nights sleep. There is plenty of wardrobe space and a good-sized clothes rack for drying clothes. The kitchen has microwave oven, stovetop, dishwasher and washing machine. The bathroom has a shower over bath. We really appreciated the supplies that Mary had waiting for us including bread, milk, butter, conserve and condiments so we didn’t have to rush off to the supermarket to get supplies. The wine and chocolates were also a nice treat. The apartment was very convenient for our needs. It is about a 15-20 minute walk to the Palacio Real and Plaza Mayor is a bit further on. It is a long but manageable walk to the museum quarter and there is the option of the metro. The Arguelles metro stop is only a 5-10 minute walk from the apartment and the metro is a convenient and easy way to get around Madrid. The apartment is also only a 20 minute walk from Principe Pio station to catch the bus to Sergovia and a 15 minute walk in the opposite direction to Moncloa bus station to catch the bus to El Escorial. The metro takes you to Atocha Renfe for the train to Toledo. These offer an economical and easy way to visit these sights on your own and at your own pace rather than taking a tour. We don’t speak Spanish but doing these trips by public transport was easy. Hence the apartment provided a great base for us to explore Madrid and the sights nearby. In summary, Mary was very pleasant and easy to deal with. The apartment is well equipped and spacious. Our only reservation was the road noise but with the bedroom doors closed we slept well. The location was also great for our needs and we would certainly stay here again.

“Home from home”

We stayed two weeks at this apartment and were sad to leave at the end because we felt so at home. The owner, Mary, was extremely helpful and only too pleased to offer assistance or advice if needed. She met us at the station to show us the way and came up with plenty of good suggestions during our stay. We found the location, 5 minutes walk from Arguelles station, very handy for wherever we wanted to go and was in a good neighbourhood with plenty of good quality bars, cafes and restaurants. The apartment had a comfortable bedroom, a more than adequate kitchen and a spacious living room with dining table, TV and wifi. The only thing to be aware of is that it is located on the 4th floor with no lift. We had no problem with this but others may.

“A PERFECT APARTMENT IN AN IDEAL LOCATION”

Thoroughly enjoyed our first trip to Madrid. The apartment is in an ideal location close to the metro but also an easy walk to the Gran Via.From the minute Mary met us at the metro station we felt very much at ease. We appreciated the groceries that were waiting for us at the apartment - bread,jam,butter,chocolates and not forgetting the wine. The accomodation was absolutely spot on in every respect.Madrid is a very compact city and tended not to use the metro too much unless it was just too sore to walk any further !! Would highly recommend a visit to the Bernabeu Stadium for both stadium tour and football match - especially if you are travelling with a football mad teenager as we were. Mary the owner was exceptionally helpful from the outset and we will certainly stay at the Ferraz apartment when we return to Madrid.

We stayed at the Ferraz apartment from 14/12/2012 to 18/12/2012. Mary, the owner is really wonderful, our dealings with her over the time we booked, leading up to our stay and during our time in Madrid were a pleasure. The apartment is absolutely as described, it is spacious, immaculately clean and very well equipped. There is a separate bedroom with a very comfortable bed, with very good quality bedding, 2 large walk in wardrobe spaces, with shelves, drawers and hanging space. W easily fitted all our bags etc in here. The kitchen is a good size with a microwave, fridge, cook top, dishwasher and laundry washer. There is plenty of plates, dishes and cooking utensils, etc. Mary left us, wine bread, milk, biscuits ,juice and a dish of pork to cook ( in our correspondence I mentioned my husband likes pork , she remembered and thought he would like this cut, he did!!). The apartment has excellent heating, a fan in the bedroom and an air conditioner. It has a large sitting room with a sofa and a sofa bed. It has two large windows, so is light and airy. The bathroom is off the kitchen not en suite which is a bonus if there is more than 2 people staying. The bathroom has a full size bath with shower over, toilet, bidet and hand basin. It is of a good size.We found the apartment to be excellent value, in a great spot( up market residential area very close to Arguelles metro stop.) The are plenty of places to buy supplies near by. We would certainly recommend this apartment and its lovely owner,who by the way is English, so communication is a breeze !! We had a lovely stay thank you.

This place lived up to our expectations and beyond. It's a delightful flat in a charming apartment building, and is very clean, with lots of light and space. It has a full kitchen, washing machine and dish washer. Mary is a warm, lovely host who seems genuinely happy to have you. The building is not in the thick of Madrid, so it's not rowdy or too noisy, but it is within walking distance to just about everything -- when we stayed, we barely took public transportation anywhere. We felt at home, we had a wonderful host and we saw Madrid, hassle free and comfortably. Highly recommend this for your next stay, as a couple or with a family.

We loved our two week stay at the Ferraz flat. The apartment was very comfortable, clean, well equipped, and just perfect for a couple. We enjoyed being close to a major park, cafes, metro, and shopping. It also felt like a real neighborhood but was still convenient to tourist attractions. Our host, Mary, met us at the metro when we arrived and was exceptionally generous, friendly, and helpful. She made us feel genuinely welcome and checked in with us throughout our stay, but respected our privacy. As a British expat who has lived in Spain for many years, Mary was able to gives us practical tips while also sharing some interesting insights into the culture. A couple of previous reviewers mentioned a problem with the front door lock. This problem has been resolved thanks to the host's efficiency. If you're hoping for a great stay in Madrid, look no further. This one gets five stars!

“For a chilled out hassle-free stay in Madrid”

Just back from a lovely sojourn in Madrid - greatly enhanced by our stay in this apartment. Having previously spent a week in a hotel in Barcelona, I would def recommend staying in an apartment if you like to go at your own pace, and want to be independent about where/how you eat. (and it's much cheaper too!) Booking the apartment was straightforward, and we chose it because we liked the photos, it had excellent reviews (hence why I'm writing one!) and because of its location. Mary - the apartment owner - was super prompt and responsive by email but didn't rush us into booking or paying our deposit. When we said we were arriving by train into Madrid, she kindly gave us step by step directions on getting to the nearest metro station; came to meet us at the station, and her husband and son helped carry our cases up the stairs (as this is a top floor flat) - ideal if you are a bit tired and disorientated by a long trip and the heat. Mary also kindly provided some food for breakfast (bread, spreads, milk, butter, etc) which was handy as we arrived on a Sunday evening and the local supermarket was closed. The flat itself is v spacious for 2 people (tho you could easily have 4 people stay too) - the lounge is esp pleasant with a small table to eat at by the balcony, an ipod doc, WIFI and tele. It does have an old air-con system which is effective but quite loud and rattly. There are 2 French windows you could open instead, but the noise of traffic does travel up despite being on the top floor. The bedroom is a bit more cosy but there's plenty of storage space to unpack your clothes - worth doing if you are staying a few days - so you can get them out of the way. There's no air-con in the bedroom, just a ceiling fan, so it can get hot (we were there at hottest time of year), even with air-con on in the lounge, but we slept fine (on the comfy bed) despite this. The kitchen is fine for cooking simple meals (no oven), and there were basics like oil, salt and pepper, which saves you having to buy that stuff. Also, it had modern and effective washing machine which was perfect for us as we'd accumulated quite a bit of washing! On the whole we hardly heard the neighbours, although of course being an apartment block, you do sometimes hear people or a tele somewhere; but it was a lot quieter than the block I live in at home! Location-wise, the apartment is far enough from nearby partying neighbourhoods (Chueca) not to be kept up all night but close enough to walk home if you missed the last metro (which we did one night, easily and safely walking back from Latina). And the metro station is just 5mins away for when you need to get further. There's a couple of bars on the street itself, if you want a night-cap, a perfectly adequate super-market round the corner, and various banks (and cash-points) where it's easy to withdraw money. There are also some local attractions like the gorgeous Egyptian temple in the nearby park (which is lined with lots of lovely terraced cafe-bars), the river and Plaza Oriente (and royal palace plus cathedral) are also walking distance (bout 20-30mins). Mary was also very helpful when we left - as we had to go quite early in the morning, she proposed to swing by the night before to return our deposit. She lives on the first floor of the same building, so if we'd had any issues, she would have been able to resolve them pretty quickly I should imagine. One last thing - Mary didn't bat an eyelid at us being a gay/lesbian couple (unfortunately, we sometimes still encounter prejudice), which helped a lot in making us feel welcome and relaxed. As you can see, I can heartily recommend this apartment, and I hope my long and detailed description (!) will encourage others to stay here and visit this wonderful city.

From the moment of our arrival & during our stay Mary Margaret was very welcoming & gracious. The apartment was very spacious, well furnished & comfortably accommodated our party of 4 (which included a 6 year old). The apartment exceeded all our expectations. The owner was very pleasant to deal with, giving us plenty of tips & even provided us with a welcome pack of food, wine & sweets for our little girl. The apartment offers exactly what it promises. The neighbourhood is set in a good location, safe & is serviced well with metro stations Argulles & Plaza de Espana. Templo de Debod is only a short walk away. There are plenty of good shops & local restaurants. After a week we were very sad to leave. We highly recommend this apartment & will come back again. It was an absolute first class service from a fabulous hostess.
